Charlie's Death[]
Eddie. Charlie and Richard were expected to take themselves to school and look after each other. As a result, they were often truant. Richard found a water tank out in the forest and would sit there. The Trawler-man called to him. Charlie, his older brother, followed him one day and became a victim of the Drowning Song. This caused their Father to become distant and Eddie to take up the role of parenting Richard.[1]
Faulkner's Abandonment[]
Faulkner came home one day from school and found the house empty. His father never came home. He spent the night sleeping on the kitchen floor. He does not read the letter left for him before he leaves, making for the Parish of Tide and Flesh.[2]
Faulkner Returns[]
After the attack on the Gulch by the lawful authorities at Greve's direction, Faulkner and Rane returns to his childhood home expecting it to be empty. He finds his father there, alone and suffering from early-onset dementia. He father repeatedly talks about Uncle Just, the man who raised him, coming to visit. Faulkner looks after him for a while. When they are attacked by a god, Faulkner puts up protections to keep it out. Faulkner's Father walks out to meet the god, leaving Faulkner once again in the middle of the night.[3]
Faulkner heads to the water tank where Charlie died and tries to drown himself. Rane rescues him.[3]
Faulkner wants to preserve the house in case his father ever returns. Rane orders some of his followers to burn the house.[4]
